The Chessboard Desert is a region of Wonderland between Wondertropolis to the east and Outerwilderbeastia to the west. It is comprised of alternating squares of ice and snow (white), the other half tar, ash, and volcanic rock (black), giving it the appearance of a giant chessboard.

At the far edge of the desert, Mount Isolation looms, the location to which Rose Heart was banished by Queen Theodora when she was disinherited in the hopes that time and isolation might cause her to mend her wild, rebellious ways.
