The Crystal Continuum is the passageway created between all the looking glasses of Wonderland, a way to travel into a looking glass (mirror) and out of another. An inexperienced continuum traveler must go through many mirrors to get to the destination of their choice, but a seasoned continuum traveler can travel easily.
Operation[]
Every looking glass in Wonderland serves as a portal to the Crystal Continuum. Focused looking glasses lead to specific destinations while unfocused looking glasses allow travelers to choose their own destination. It takes a good bit of practice to become particularly good at even basic navigation within the Crystal Continuum making short trips difficult and long trips almost impossible for anything less than the most seasoned traveler.
Portal Sleep is a side effect of looking-glass transport which afflicts the young and inexperienced causing them to pass out during transport.
As the Continuum is created from the passageways that exist between looking glasses, it can only exist so long as the looking glasses exist.
History[]
When Alyss and her companions are caught by Redd traveling within the Crystal Continuum, Redd orders the destruction of all looking glasses in Wonderland. It is due to this event that Dodge discovers that the passageways of the Continuum, even when most looking glasses are destroyed, can still be created through the use of a hand mirror as long as there is a single looking glass left unbroken from which they might exit.
One of the first things to be reconstructed during Queen Alyss’ reign, the Crystal Continuum was destroyed once more, or at least rendered temporarily unusable, by the concussive blast of the Arch’s device which Molly accidentally set off while traveling through the Continuum.
Bandersnatch Avenue is a thoroughfare located near the Millinery that has a public looking glass portal that links it to the Crystal Continuum near a sandwich shop.
Homburg Molly entered the Crystal Continuum through this public portal just before causing the explosion that not only knocks out the Crystal Continuum, but also results in the rain of Wonderlanders as all Wonderlanders in transit through the Crystal Continuum at the time of the explosion are unceremonious ejected at speed through the nearest looking glass portal to their current location.
The effects of this scaled down WILMA weapon sent by King Arch of Boarderland eventually wore off and by the time the Club uprising began the Continuum was perfectly functional once more.
